Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about LuminaDent dental resins – from compatibility to curing, storage, and support.
Products & Compatibility
Which 3D printers are compatible with LuminaDent resins?
Our resins are optimized for LCD/MSLA and DLP 3D printers with 385nm or 405nm light sources. Compatible with popular brands including Phrozen, Anycubic, Elegoo, Formlabs (with custom profile), Uniformation, and industrial printers like Asiga, Rapidshape, and Ackuretta. Download our free printing profiles from the product page.
What is the difference between Model Resin and Surgical Guide Resin?
Model Resin is optimized for high dimensional accuracy and low shrinkage – ideal for study models, dies, and orthodontic models. Surgical Guide Resin is transparent, radiopaque, and Class II biocompatible for direct intraoperative use. It has higher flexural strength and sterilizability.
Can I use LuminaDent resins on any resin printer?
Most open-source resin printers (LCD/DLP) work perfectly. For closed systems like Formlabs, you can use our resins in "open mode" with custom settings – we provide detailed exposure guidelines. Avoid use with incompatible wavelength printers (less than 380nm).
Biocompatibility & Safety
Are LuminaDent resins biocompatible / medical grade?
Yes. Our medical-grade resins (Surgical Guide, Crown, Splint, Denture Base, Aligner) are ISO 10993 tested for cytotoxicity, sensitization, and irritation. They are Class I or Class II medical devices depending on application. Certificates available upon request.
Do I need special PPE when handling dental resins?
Always wear nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid skin contact. Uncured resin may cause mild irritation. In case of contact, wash with soap and water. Refer to our Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed handling instructions.
Are the resins suitable for long-term intraoral use?
Denture Base Resin, Splint Rigid/Flex, and Clear Aligner Resin are validated for long-term (up to 3+ years) intraoral use. Temporary Crown Resin is indicated for up to 12 months. Always follow post-curing guidelines (UV + heat) to achieve full biocompatibility.
Printing & Curing
What are the recommended layer heights and exposure times?
We recommend 50μm layer height as a starting point. Exposure times typically range from 2.0–3.5 seconds for 405nm LCD printers (depending on power). Each product page includes a detailed exposure matrix for popular printers. Always run an exposure test first.
How do I post-cure dental resins correctly?
Wash in IPA (or water for water-washable variants) for 3-5 minutes, then cure in a 405nm curing station for 10-20 minutes. For maximum biocompatibility, additional heat curing at 60°C for 30 minutes is recommended for crown and denture resins. Follow TDS for each product.
What is the shelf life of unopened resin?
Unopened bottles have a shelf life of 24 months when stored in a cool, dark place (15-25°C). Avoid direct sunlight and freeze. Once opened, use within 6 months and always shake vigorously before each use.
